Homecoming at the University of Western Ontario

This past Saturday, I had a great time piping for Homecoming at the University of Western Ontario – #westernhoco as it’s affectionately called.

My duty for the day was to lead the crowd, who had just finished watching country singer Gord Bamford perform, through campus to the TD Football Stadium so they could watch the Western Mustangs take on the Toronto Varsity Blues. (In case you’re wondering, the Mustangs won 63-15.

Students and alumni of all ages were proudly showing their school spirit so the campus was a sea of purple and white. Luckily, my kilt and black attire meant that I stood out in the crowd!

I always enjoy playing gigs like this because they mean I get to stretch my legs on the one kilometre route and play a wide variety of tunes. While I was playing, I also had to fist bump a couple of excited students (I guess there’s a first time for everything!).

On my way back to my car, I was stopped by a student who requested I play something because it was her birthday. I couldn’t resist seranading her with an extra special tune (make sure your volume is on).
