Last Thursday, I volunteered my services to play at the Alzheimer Society Waterloo Wellington’s annual Winter Warmer. This sold out scotch tasting event was held at The Tannery building in Kitchener. The Tannery is becoming a popular place for bagpipes as I recently played for another tenant of the building, Google.
I had the pleasure of piping Mixologist Mike McLean into the event. Mike was on hand to lead the crowd through a tasting of The Macallan 1824 Collection, single malt whiskies from Speyside.
Not all Whisky is Scotch.
Not sure what the difference between scotch and whisky is? Think the terms are interchangeable?
Here’s a quick explanation – Like the name suggests, scotch is produced in Scotland. In Scotland, the same product is simply referred to as whisky. So, scotch is whisky produced in Scotland. Whisky is also produced in countries like Canada, the USA, Ireland, and others.
For the scotch drinkers out there, what region do you enjoy a single malt from most? Any favourite distilleries (comments can be added after voting)? I prefer an Islay whisky and have been enjoying a bottle of Laphroaig Quarter Cask.
