Piping Down the Sun at McDougall Cottage

For the past two weeks, I have volunteered to spend Sunday afternoons piping down the sun at McDougall Cottage in Cambridge, Ontario.

For more than a century, Scotsmen called this quaint limestone cottage home. Piping down the sun pays homage to these roots by honouring the ancient Celtic tradition of bidding the sun “oidhche mhath” (good night).

I’ve really enjoyed piping here as it’s a chance to be outside and play a wide variety of tunes. There’s also the added bonus of the homemade shortbread cookies they serve all guests!

I’m piping again on Sunday, August 16 and 23, 4 to 4:30 p.m. I hope you’ll join me and experience this tradition for yourself. There’s no cost to attend.
