#TuneTuesday | Wooden Heart

Oct 13 Tune Tuesday - Post Page

Happy Oktoberfest!

When we started this blog, I never thought I’d add the words “Elvis Presley” to a post about bagpipes. But here I am, typing them AND about to share a video of “the King” himself.

Let me provide some context first.

As a tribute to Oktoberfest, this week’s #TuneTuesday is a German folk tune called “Wooden Heart.” Somewhere along the line, lyrics were added and the tune became synonymous with Elvis after he sang it in the film “G.I. Blues.” The tune was also included on the B-side of the American release of his “Blue Christmas” album.

Andrew tells me that “Wooden Heart” was one of the first tunes he learned to play on the bagpipes. He later performed it as a member of the Grand River Highlanders Pipe Band. I hope you enjoy his recording.

And for comparison, here’s Elvis signing the tune in the film “G.I. Blues.”

Enjoy and stay “tuned” for next week’s #TuneTuesday!
